Life is full of challenges that may require support from a professional therapist. We will discuss your specific need during your initial phone call with Maryellen P. Mullin, LMFT, founder of San Francisco Family Therapy.
If you are unsure of the type of therapy is best suited for your needs, San Francisco Family Therapy offers a variety of treatments including:
Gottman Method - A form of couples therapy that utilizes techniques to help teach couples how to disarm conflicting verbal communication; increase intimacy, respect, and affection.
Prepare/Enrich for Couples - An assessment tool utilized to equip couples and families with evidence-based skills and insights to help foster healthy relationships.
EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. This therapy has been proven helpful for treatment of disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences (Maxfield, 2019).
EFT - Tapping, (Emotional Freedom Technique), is a globally recognized self-help method which uses the fingers to gently tap on the body's acupuncture points. It is a way to work with the body somatically, for anxiety, pain, stress, grief and many other issues.
We will work with a wide range of emotional, cognitive and behavioral issues for children, adolescents/teens, adults, couples and families. If you or your family decide to move forward with therapy after an initial consultation, your clinician will work with you to develop an appropriate course of treatment. Treatment is supportive and may involve learning how to:
understand and grow your relationship with someone (a partner, child, parent, etc.)
improve communication within a relationship or family
develop or refine skills, such as coping skills, communication skills, parenting skills, etc.
manage life transitions, such as loss of a relationship, becoming a parent, marriage, divorce, etc.
address experiences of depression, anxiety, emotional wound(s) or trauma(s)
cope with loss, grief
work on changing a specific behavior or reaction
Therapy may be a brief process of several sessions to deal with an immediate issue, or it may be a more extended process to deal with more complicated or entrenched patterns that interfere with you or your family's life.
Therapy consists of regular weekly or bi-weekly appointments. At San Francisco Family Therapy, our therapeutic approach and treatment draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/Tapping) and Family Systems orientations. If making it to the office is challenging, our CEO and Founder, Maryellen Mullin, LMFT, offers video sessions on a HIPAA compliant format, Simple Practice.
